Rock-hard abs are a common sight on the Victoria’s Secret runway, but the sacrifices that go with attaining them aren’t actually as drastic as they seem, according to Adriana Lima.
Prior to the highly anticipated event, Lima told the Daily Telegraph that the days leading up to the show involved a very strict regimen of twice-daily workouts and absolutely no solid foods.
Twelve hours before the show, that intake slimmed down to “no liquids at all, sometimes you can lose up to eight pounds just from that,” she’d said.
After the Internet began to buzz about Lima’s “crazy” diet,” the lovely lingerie model, 30, spoke with E! Canada, explaining that there was a “misunderstanding” about just how intense her diet was.
“I just have an athlete’s mind and I appreciate doing this thing,” she told E! Online. “It’s not that I do crazy diets throughout the year. I just do it for this particular thing. After this show, I become normal again!”
The new mom even made a point to show off her backstage snack while speaking with E! Canada: Coffee, water and a piece of cake.
“I have my Starbucks coffee right there …it was a misunderstanding,” she said.
Lima is particularly anxious to get the message out to impressionable young women that her diet is part of her job, but not a part of a normal healthy lifestyle.
“Those teenagers out there, don’t go starving yourself or only drinking liquids,” she said. “Don’t do that please.”
The Victoria’s Secret angel even decided to tone down her own pre-show preparations this year.
“This year, even though my diet was intense, I took it a little bit easier on the working out so I won’t be as muscular,” she said.
