This stage involves the consumption of 72 high protein foods that spike metabolism. It also requires you to consume 1.5tbsp of oat bran and drink plenty of water. This stage abolishes fat and carbohydrates. You can lose 3 kilos in approximately a week’s time.

Cruise: What does the diet include?

As the name suggests, this is the duration where you take your time to achieve your weight loss goal. At this stage 28 vegetables are added to the list. The cruise stage can take months.

Consolidation: What does the diet include?

When you lose the weight, you don’t want it back. This is the stage that ensures you maintain your weight and return to a balanced diet. This is the stage where you can indulge in two festive meals per week.

Stabilisation: What does the diet include?

Now that you have lost the weight, you have to maintain it. Hence the key to stabilization is follow the protein rich diet once a week, eat oat bran daily and exercise.

Disadvantages of the Dukan diet

1. Since it is a protein rich diet, other nutrients and minerals are sidelined.

2. When you rapidly lose weight based solely on a diet, you may experience muscle loss, kidney problems and gallstones.

3. Constipation, bad breath, headaches, insomnia, dry mouth, and fatigue are some of the indicator of a bad unhealthy diet, therefore a poorly balanced Dukan diet will cause much discomfort and unhappiness.

4. In the long run it may not be foolproof, especially if you give up the diet plan.
