Dr. Oz’s Total 10 rapid weight loss maintenance diet: Lose 9 pounds in 2 weeks

Dr. Mehmet Oz detailed the maintenance plan for his Total 10 rapid weight loss diet on the Jan. 16 episode of the Dr. Oz Show. Some two million people have tried the Total 10 diet, with most losing 9 pounds in 14 days without exercise.

The premise of the Total 10 weight loss diet is simple: Eat protein and vegetables at every meal to suppress appetite, and limit wheat, artificial sweeteners, alcohol, dairy, processed foods and refined sugar. Dr. Oz said these foods cause inflammation, which fuels weight gain and disease.

Dr. Oz’s Total 10 rapid weight loss diet is a modified version of his 2-Week Rapid Weight Loss Diet, which helped audience members lose over 1,000 pounds combined, or 9 pounds per person without exercise.

The popularity of the Total 10 Rapid Weight Loss Diet has soared, receiving more than 16 million page views on Dr. Oz’s website.

Oz said the Total 10 diet triggers your hormones to fight fat naturally without exercise. Unlike other celebrity weight loss diets like the low-carb Paleo, Atkins and ketogenic plans, Oz said Total 10 is not low-carb.

“I actually think it’s wise to periodically take a large carb load in,” said Dr. Oz. “Because it reminds your hormones that you’re not in a starvation mode, so it’ll relax those hormones so they keep your metabolism pretty high.”

While many Dr. Oz Show viewers have lost eight to 10 pounds in two weeks on Total 10, Oz said you can make it a long-term lifestyle change instead of a short-term crash diet by following a few simple rules.

First, Dr. Oz suggested avoiding packaged food and opting for whole, natural foods instead. Another step is to make protein and vegetables the cornerstone of each meal.

The vegetables will provide vitamins, nutrients and fiber, while the protein will keep you full and curb hunger. After two weeks, you can slowly reintroduce some of the food groups you cut out.

Dr. Oz introduced his audience to Christina, a woman who lost 100 pounds in one year by following the Total 10 rapid weight loss diet. Christina, a working mom of two boys, lost 10 pounds in the first two weeks. By the third month, she had lost 55 pounds, and by 12 months, she had dropped 100 pounds.
